Imam Ghazzali has written this book mainly due to its importance in every muslims’ lives, in determining first of all the knowledge which Allah has, through His Messenger, ordered the elite to seek. Therefore the author deemed it important to engage in the writing of this book, to revive the science of religion, to bring to light the exemplary lives of the departed scholars, and to show what branches of knowledge the Prophets and the virtuous scholars regarded as useful.
